Iran Presents Proposals to the United States for Ending the War - Media
Iran has put forward proposals to the United States aimed at ending the ongoing conflict, according to reports from state media and The New York Times.
According to a report relayed by Ukrinform, Iran has presented its proposals to the United States regarding the cessation of hostilities. This information was disclosed by The New York Times, citing data from Iranian state media.
The Iranian state media indicated that the text of Iran's proposal 'rejects a ceasefire' and 'emphasizes the necessity for a definitive end to the war in accordance with Iran's vision.' While the full text of the proposal has not been published, media reports suggest that the document includes a protocol concerning safe passage through the Strait of Hormuz. The proposal also outlines Iran's demands, which include the lifting of sanctions, the restoration of destroyed infrastructure, and the cessation of military actions in the region.
Two Iranian officials, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, confirmed that the proposal includes a guarantee that Iran will no longer be subjected to attacks, and it also demands a halt to Israeli strikes on Hezbollah in Lebanon, as well as the lifting of all sanctions imposed on Iran.
In exchange for these conditions, Iran is prepared to lift its de facto blockade of the crucial maritime route through the Strait of Hormuz. Additionally, Iran plans to impose a fee of approximately $2 million for each vessel passing through the strait. These funds will be shared with Oman, which is located on the opposite side of the strait. According to the plan, Iran will use its share of the fees to restore infrastructure that has been destroyed due to attacks by the United States and Israel, rather than demanding direct compensation.
As reported by Ukrinform, the United States, Iran, and a group of regional intermediaries are currently negotiating the terms of a potential 45-day ceasefire, which could serve as the first step towards a definitive end to the war. These discussions are gaining momentum amid rising tensions in the region, where military actions have been ongoing for an extended period.
It is important to note that the situation in the region remains extremely complex, and any attempts to achieve peace face numerous challenges. Iran's proposals could represent a significant step towards reducing tensions; however, their implementation will require efforts from all parties involved in the negotiations.
In light of recent events, observers note that the success or failure of these negotiations could significantly impact stability in the region, as well as the relationship between Iran and the United States, and the broader global political landscape.
