Another Life: Exhibition by American-Ukrainian Artist Olya Rondyak Opens in Kyiv
An exhibition titled 'Another Life' featuring the works of American-Ukrainian artist Olya Rondyak will open at the Museum of Ukrainian Diaspora in Kyiv on May 10, 2026, at 5:00 PM.
In Kyiv, the Museum of Ukrainian Diaspora is set to host the opening of the exhibition 'Another Life' on May 10, 2026, at 5:00 PM. This event showcases the works of Olya Rondyak, an artist with roots in both the United States and Ukraine. According to a report by Ukrinform, the details were shared on the official event page on Facebook.
The exhibition is designed as a conceptual journey that encompasses four key themes: life after death, lost life, past life, and life during wartime. Artist Olya Rondyak deeply contemplates the theme of daily survival, embodying the rhythm of 'another day, another night' and the belief in the continuity of generations passed down through experience.
In her new works, Olya Rondyak returns to traditional materials such as fabric, burlap, embroidery, and beadwork. These elements symbolize the threads that connect her personal experiences with the history of her immigrant ancestors. A central motif of the exhibition is a reinterpreted form of the motanka, a traditional Ukrainian doll, which serves as a symbol of resilience and the ongoing struggle for existence, particularly relevant in the context of the current war.
The artist employs contrasting colors and materials to convey the harsh realities of war. The black backgrounds in her works embody emptiness and the unknown, while charcoal drawings on white paper enhance the feeling of raw nerves laid bare. The minimalist forms she chooses reflect the profound impact of war on collective consciousness, compelling viewers to reflect on the consequences of conflict.
Olya Rondyak was born in Cleveland, USA, to a family of Ukrainian immigrants. She pursued her education in psychology and pedagogy in New York and Cleveland. In 1995, the artist moved to Kyiv, where she continued her creative journey. Her works have been exhibited in cities such as Paris, New York, and Tokyo, as well as at the Burning Man festival and leading art fairs around the world. Olya Rondyak is best known for her innovative motanka sculptures and expressive portrait paintings that captivate audiences with their depth and emotional resonance.
The 'Another Life' exhibition will run until May 10, 2026, with free admission to the opening event. The Museum of Ukrainian Diaspora is located at 40B Knyaziv Ostrozkykh Street, Kyiv. The ticket price for the exhibition is set at 160 hryvnias, while discounted tickets will be available for 80 hryvnias for eligible categories.
It is worth noting that the Museum of Ukrainian Diaspora recently hosted two author-led tours of the 'UКRАЇNKИ' exhibition, which is dedicated to the global Ukrainian womanhood. This event highlights the museum's active role in promoting Ukrainian art and culture.
