Pension Indexation: Who Received the Largest Supplements

The Pension Fund of Ukraine has announced the results of the automatic pension indexation that took place on March 1. Approximately 9.5 million non-working pensioners received significant increases in their pensions.

The Pension Fund of Ukraine has officially revealed the outcomes of the automatic pension indexation that occurred on March 1, 2023. According to the fund, this procedure affected around 9.5 million non-working pensioners, who received substantial supplements to their pensions. The average increase amounted to 648.93 UAH, with a minimum increase of 100 UAH and a maximum increase reaching 2,595 UAH. Consequently, the average pension in Ukraine in March 2023 has reached 7,137.26 UAH.

Based on the information provided by the Pension Fund, the largest group of pensioners who received indexed pensions consists of those whose payments were assigned before 2021. This group includes 7.2 million individuals, for whom the average increase was 631.43 UAH. This indicates that pensioners who have been receiving payments for a longer period have benefited more significantly from the indexation compared to those who became pensioners more recently.

In contrast, pensioners whose payments were assigned last year experienced the smallest increase. The average indexation for this category was only 290.13 UAH, suggesting that new pensioners received fewer advantages from the indexation compared to those who have been receiving pensions for a longer time.

It is also noteworthy that military pensioners, numbering 579,200, received an average increase of 1,573.05 UAH. This significant enhancement reflects the importance of supporting military personnel and their families. Additionally, Chernobyl veterans, totaling 89,800 individuals, received even more, with their average increase amounting to 1,576.16 UAH. This highlights the recognition of their contributions and sacrifices.

Public servants, scientists, and local government employees were not overlooked either. For the 23,600 individuals in this category, the average increase was 1,371.00 UAH. This also underscores the importance of supporting those who work for the benefit of society and the state.

Overall, as of March 1, 2023, following the indexation, the average pension in Ukraine stands at 7,137 UAH, which is a result of the government's efforts to improve social security for pensioners. The payments have been increased on average by 648 UAH, marking an important step in supporting elderly individuals amidst economic challenges.
