Ukrainian National Team Players Receive Significant Bonuses for Advancing to World Cup 2026 Playoffs
Ukrainian blogger and commentator Viktor Vatsko revealed that players of the Ukrainian national team have received substantial bonuses for reaching the playoffs of the World Cup 2026 qualification.
During his authorial program, Vatsko Live, Viktor Vatsko shared insights regarding the financial aspects of the Ukrainian national team's participation in the World Cup qualifiers. He disclosed that the team, led by coach Serhiy Rebrov, not only received bonuses for advancing to the playoffs but was also promised significant financial rewards for potentially qualifying for the final tournament of the World Cup.
Vatsko emphasized that the players were motivated by more than just the honor of wearing the national jersey, representing the flag, and serving their country. He noted, “The UAF promised serious bonuses to the players. The footballers received bonuses for reaching the playoffs amounting to several hundred thousand dollars.” This statement highlights the financial incentives that accompany the players' efforts on the field.
In addition to the bonuses for advancing to the playoffs, Vatsko mentioned that if the team were to qualify for the final tournament of the World Cup 2026, they would receive an additional bonus of two million euros. He expressed his confusion regarding the players' motivation, stating, “I don’t know, I don’t understand, it doesn’t make sense to me what motivation they need. The national jersey, the flag, the emblem of the country do not motivate, money does not motivate.” This raises questions about the players' drive and commitment to the national team.
It is important to note that under Serhiy Rebrov's leadership, the Ukrainian national team failed to qualify for the World Cup, losing to Sweden in the semi-finals of the European qualification playoffs with a score of 1:3. This defeat was a disappointment for Ukrainian fans, as the last time the national team participated in the World Cup was back in 2006.
Looking ahead, the next major international tournament for the Ukrainian national team will be the Nations League, where the team will compete in Division B. The Ukrainians are set to face Hungary (with the first match scheduled for September 25), Georgia, and Northern Ireland. This tournament will provide an opportunity for Ukrainian footballers to showcase their skills on the international stage and potentially restore the trust of their supporters.
Additionally, it has been reported that Ukraine ranks among the top five most valuable national teams that will not be playing in the World Cup 2026. This indicates the high potential of the team, despite their absence from the global competition. Furthermore, there are rumors that the UAF is considering a sensational candidate to replace Serhiy Rebrov as the head coach of the national team, which has sparked additional interest among football fans.
