On March 31, 2023, a significant event took place in Kyiv as a delegation from the Republic of Lithuania, led by the Speaker of the Seimas, Viktoras Pranckietis, delivered another batch of aid to the Main Intelligence Directorate (GUR) of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine. This initiative once again highlighted Lithuania's unwavering support for Ukraine in its fight for freedom and independence.
The delegation that arrived in the Ukrainian capital included influential figures such as the advisor to the Speaker of the Seimas, General Saulius Stripeika, the Lithuanian Ambassador to Ukraine, Inga Stanitė-Toločkėnė, as well as representatives from the Lithuanian parliament, diplomatic corps, volunteer organizations, and businesses. This diverse group reflects Lithuania's deep commitment to supporting Ukraine during this challenging time.
The meeting between the Lithuanian partners and GUR representative Andriy Yusov took place in a warm and friendly atmosphere. Pranckietis, commenting on the importance of supporting Ukraine, stated: "Lithuania has been and remains shoulder to shoulder with Ukraine. We understand well what it means to fight for freedom and sovereignty — and that is why supporting Ukraine is not a matter of choice for us, but a matter of principle. To victory!" These words underscore the deep historical and cultural ties between the two countries.
Andriy Yusov, in turn, expressed gratitude to the Lithuanian friends, stating: "We are pleased to welcome our Lithuanian friends. Thank you to the embassy team, volunteers, citizens, and specialists of the Lithuanian Defense Forces — this attention means a lot for the Ukrainian military and for our entire nation." These remarks highlight the importance of international support for Ukraine in the context of war.
During the meeting, the GUR representative presented Lithuanian partners with military intelligence insignia and a book titled "Island of GUR. Secrets. Operations. War" authored by Maksym Butchenko. This book serves as an important source of information about the activities of the Ukrainian intelligence. Additionally, a letter of gratitude from the Coordination Headquarters for the Treatment of Prisoners of War was also handed over.
Among the gifts received by the Lithuanian partners was a commemorative coin titled "Ukrainian Cotton. Unmanned Surface Vehicle MAGURA," dedicated to an innovative development by the GUR that significantly changed the course of combat operations in the Black Sea. This coin symbolizes the importance of technology in modern warfare.
Separately, Pranckietis was presented with a painting by artist Serhiy Smetankin from Sloviansk, depicting a Ukrainian house painted on the lid of an ammunition crate. This painting was handed over by Oksana Povyakel, the General Director of the National Museum of Folk Architecture and Life of Ukraine in Pyrohiv. This gift symbolizes the cultural connections between the peoples and their shared history.
It is worth noting that Ukraine and Lithuania maintain a constant friendship and partnership. In addition to providing material support to the Ukrainian military, representatives of both countries participate jointly in international conferences on strategic communications, exchanging experiences in information work during wartime. This cooperation is a crucial element in the fight against disinformation and propaganda.
As previously reported, at the end of March, a charity auction was held in Kyiv to support the special units of the GUR. Notable figures participated in the auction, including singer KOLA, television presenter Dmytro Komarov, singer Arsen Mirzoyan, and the band "TNMK." They provided unique lots for the raffle: props from music videos, personal items, and artifacts related to the war.
Among the auction lots were also a modern reissue of the Ostroh Bible from 1581 signed by the Metropolitan of Kyiv and all Ukraine Epiphanius, a Ukrainian flag signed by the head of the President's Office, Lieutenant General Kyrylo Budanov, and a gold medal from the World Rhythmic Gymnastics Championship by Hanna Rizatdinova. The funds raised will go towards equipping 10 mobile drone groups to ensure continuous tactical reconnaissance along a 100-kilometer stretch of the front. The soldiers will be provided with pickups, FPV drones, and quadcopters, as well as communication and satellite equipment for effective operations.
