Ukrainian General Staff Confirms Strike on Oil Refinery in Russian Ufa and Targets in Occupied Ukrainian Territories
In the early hours of April 2, 2026, Ukrainian drones launched strikes on several sites within Russia and occupied Ukraine, including a significant oil refinery in Ufa, Bashkortostan, confirmed by the Ukrainian General Staff on April 3.
In the early hours of April 2, 2026, Ukrainian drones executed strikes on multiple sites across Russia and in occupied territories of Ukraine. The Ukrainian General Staff confirmed that one of the primary targets was an oil refinery located in the city of Ufa, Bashkortostan, with details emerging on April 3.
The Bashneft-Novoil oil refinery in Ufa was struck, resulting in a fire breaking out on the premises. The General Staff of Ukraine noted that this refinery is one of the largest producers of high-quality lubricants in Russia, with a crude oil processing capacity of approximately seven million tons per year.
"This refinery is a key component of Russia's fuel and energy complex and is utilized to meet the needs of the Russian military," emphasized the General Staff. Currently, an assessment of the damage inflicted is underway.
In addition to the refinery strike, a residential building in Ufa was also hit and caught fire. This information was reported by the independent Telegram outlet Astra on April 2. According to regional governor Radiy Khabirov, all Ukrainian drones were intercepted en route to the refinery, and only debris from the downed drones caused damage.
Local authorities reported that there were no casualties or injuries resulting from the strike on the building, and the fire has since been extinguished. Ufa, the capital of Bashkortostan, is situated approximately 1,400 kilometers from the Ukrainian border.
In the occupied territory of the Zaporizhzhia region, Ukraine targeted the Kulikivskyi training ground in Novopetrivka and an ammunition depot in Uspenivka, as stated by the General Staff. Additionally, Ukrainian forces struck concentrations of Russian troops in Kotlyne and Shandryholove in the Donetsk region, as well as in Berezove in the Dnipropetrovsk region. The General Staff did not specify how many soldiers were killed or wounded during these attacks.
Ukraine has been consistently targeting military infrastructure deep within Russia and in occupied territories, aiming to diminish Moscow's capacity to sustain its war against Ukraine. Kyiv views oil refineries as legitimate military targets, as they directly finance Russia's military efforts.
