General Staff: Russia Has Lost 1,302,370 Military Personnel in Ukraine Since February 24, 2022
According to information provided by the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine on April 4, Russia has suffered significant losses in Ukraine, totaling approximately 1,302,370 military personnel since the onset of the full-scale invasion on February 24, 2022.
The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reported on April 4 that Russia has incurred substantial losses in Ukraine, amounting to around 1,302,370 military personnel since the beginning of the full-scale invasion on February 24, 2022. This staggering figure highlights the scale of the conflict and its impact on both sides involved.
Notably, of this total, 1,110 military personnel were reported killed in just the last day alone. Additionally, the report detailed that Russia has lost 11,835 tanks, 24,344 armored combat vehicles, 87,149 vehicles and fuel tanks, 39,378 artillery systems, 1,716 multiple launch rocket systems, 1,338 air defense systems, 435 aircraft, 350 helicopters, 217,016 drones, 33 ships and boats, as well as two submarines.
The General Staff of Ukraine has not disclosed its own losses during the full-scale invasion, citing operational secrecy. While Ukrainian officials rarely provide specific numbers, President Volodymyr Zelensky stated in an interview with a French television channel on February 4 that at least 55,000 Ukrainian soldiers have died in combat since the start of the full-scale war, not including numerous missing persons.
The intensity of Russian drone usage and combat operations complicates Ukraine's ability to recover the bodies of fallen soldiers, which is necessary for identification through DNA. Independent Western analytical centers agree that Russia's losses significantly exceed those of Ukraine. The Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) estimates the casualty ratio to be approximately 2.5:1 or 2:1 in favor of Ukraine.
According to a CSIS report from January 2026, Ukraine is likely to have suffered between 500,000 and 600,000 casualties from February 2022 to December 2025, with between 100,000 and 140,000 considered to be killed in action. These figures indicate that the conflict has resulted in enormous human and material losses, which continue to grow, and that both sides are facing serious challenges in this war.
