Frank Warren Ready to Sue WBC Over Usyk vs. Kabayel Fight
Prominent boxing promoter Frank Warren has expressed his dissatisfaction with the ongoing situation regarding the organization of a crucial fight between WBC world champion Oleksandr Usyk and mandatory challenger Agit Kabayel, stating he is prepared to take legal action against the WBC if necessary.
Frank Warren, the promoter for the Queensberry boxing organization, has not hidden his frustration regarding the current situation surrounding the organization of a fight between reigning WBC world champion Oleksandr Usyk and mandatory challenger Agit Kabayel. Warren has declared that he is ready to initiate legal proceedings against the WBC if the organization fails to take steps to arrange this important bout.
Warren emphasized that Agit Kabayel, who boasts an undefeated record of 27 wins (19 by knockout), is ranked number one in the WBC standings, making a fight between him and Usyk absolutely essential. "Kabayel is the number one contender in the WBC rankings, and the fight between Usyk and Rico Verhoeven will take place in Egypt, after which the WBC will have to schedule a bout against the mandatory challenger. If they do not do this, we will sue them," Warren stated.
The promoter has made it clear that he considers Agit Kabayel a worthy opponent for Usyk, pointing out that avoiding this fight could force Usyk to vacate his title. "I’m telling you, I’m not going to play games, Agit deserves his shot, he needs to be in there, and if anyone tries to avoid this fight, then Usyk will have to relinquish the belt — it’s that simple. Fight Agit or vacate it," Warren stressed.
Warren is also confident that the match between Usyk and Kabayel could draw a massive audience at the stadium. "We are not going to tolerate this, why hasn’t the organization ordered this fight? We just sold out the entire stadium (in Agit's last fight against Damian Knyba) in one day, even though we could have sold three times as many tickets. Agit is not just some guy you can’t make money with. The fight between him and Usyk is a stadium fight. I want to see this. I’m a big fan of Usyk, he is a true warrior, but why wouldn’t Agit want to fight him?" Warren was quoted by Boxing Scene.
Oleksandr Usyk's next fight is set to be against kickboxing legend Rico Verhoeven. This boxing match is scheduled for May 23 in Giza, Egypt, with the WBC title on the line. Usyk, who holds a record of 24 wins (15 by knockout) and no losses, continues to be one of the most popular boxers in the world, and his bouts always generate significant interest among fans.
As such, the situation surrounding a potential fight between Usyk and Kabayel remains tense, with all eyes on the next steps from the WBC and promoter Warren. Whether the WBC can organize this bout or if Warren will have to resort to legal action is a question that currently concerns many boxing fans.
