Linoleum Festival Announces AI Animation Film Competition
In response to rapid changes in the animation industry, Anastasia Verlinska, the director of the Linoleum Animation Festival, emphasizes the importance of embracing new tools rather than shying away from them.
In light of the rapid transformations occurring within the animation industry, coupled with funding shortages and concerns over job losses, Anastasia Verlinska, the director of the Linoleum Animation Festival, has highlighted the necessity of not avoiding change but rather mastering new tools. "AI is already influencing the processes of animation creation, and for us, it is crucial to explore it as an opportunity, not just a threat," she stated, urging for the active use of cutting-edge technologies in creative endeavors.
The competition for AI animation films will commence on April 2 and continue until July 1, 2026. Aspiring animators are invited to submit their works through the Filmfreeway platform, which provides convenient access for participation in the festival. This initiative opens new horizons for animators eager to experiment with artificial intelligence technologies in their creative processes.
Selected works will be showcased at the Linoleum Festival, scheduled to take place from September 30 to October 4, 2026, in Kyiv. This event will be a significant milestone for the Ukrainian animation community, as the Linoleum Festival is the largest exhibition of author animation in Ukraine. It actively promotes independent animation and fosters favorable conditions for the development of animation and related industries in the country.
The winner of the competition will receive a cash prize of $2,000, serving as an additional incentive for animators who aspire to bring their ideas to life using the latest technologies. This also underscores the importance of supporting creative initiatives during times of change and challenges faced by the industry.
The Linoleum Festival continues its mission to advance the art of animation both in Ukraine and beyond. As reported by Ukrinform, the festival is dedicated not only to showcasing animated films but also to creating a platform for the exchange of ideas and experiences among artists.
