Fabio Wardley on Future Fights: Usyk and Wilder as Priorities
WBO heavyweight champion Fabio Wardley has expressed his ambitions for upcoming bouts, emphasizing that his top priority is a fight against Daniel Dubois. Following that, he aims to face Ukrainian boxer Oleksandr Usyk or American Deontay Wilder.
Fabio Wardley, the reigning WBO heavyweight champion, has articulated his aspirations for future boxing matches, highlighting that his immediate focus is on a showdown with Daniel Dubois. According to Wardley, after his bout with Dubois, he is eager to step into the ring with Ukrainian boxer Oleksandr Usyk or American heavyweight Deontay Wilder. This information was reported by the reputable publication Ring Magazine.
"My number one priority is Daniel Dubois. After him, it’s Oleksandr Usyk. And if for some reason that fight can’t be organized, then my third target will be Deontay Wilder," Wardley stated, underlining his intentions clearly.
Wardley also shared his thoughts on a potential fight between Deontay Wilder and Anthony Joshua, indicating that it would be a beneficial matchup for both fighters, considering their current standings in their careers. "Yes, I really like that fight too. It’s a good match for both of them, given where they are in their careers right now. I know we were waiting for this much earlier when they were both at their peaks, but I guess better late than never," the champion added.
Wardley's next fight is scheduled against Daniel Dubois on May 9 in Manchester. The bout will be for the WBO heavyweight championship title, making it particularly significant for both boxers involved.
This upcoming match will mark Wardley's first title defense of the WBO belt, which he won in November of last year after Oleksandr Usyk vacated the title. Wardley currently boasts an impressive record of 20 wins, with 19 of those victories coming by knockout, and one fight ending in a draw, showcasing his formidable boxing skills.
On the other hand, Daniel Dubois last stepped into the ring in July, where he suffered a stoppage loss to Usyk in a bout for the undisputed heavyweight championship. His record stands at 25 fights, with 22 wins (21 by knockout) and 3 losses. This fight against Wardley presents him with an opportunity to get back on the winning track.
It is noteworthy that previously there was a confrontation between the two boxers, during which Dubois refused to shake Wardley's hand, indicating potential tension between them. In November 2025, Dubois also declined a fight against Cuban Frank Sanchez for the status of mandatory challenger for the IBF title, which stirred some controversy within the boxing community.
Additionally, it has come to light that Tyson Fury has expressed a desire to fight Wardley, to which Wardley has responded positively. He has previously also voiced his wish to face Oleksandr Usyk, further demonstrating his ambitions and desire for high-profile bouts.
Moreover, reports have indicated that Usyk has set conditions for a fight with the winner of the Wardley-Dubois match, adding intrigue to the upcoming heavyweight clashes. The boxers continue to actively discuss their plans, and fans are eagerly anticipating these thrilling encounters.
