Two Russian Soldiers Charged with Crimes During Bucha Occupation

The National Police of Ukraine has announced that two Russian servicemen have been charged with committing crimes during the occupation of Bucha, including actions that resulted in the deaths of civilians and cruel treatment of the local population.

On the official website of the Main Investigative Department of the National Police of Ukraine, information was published stating that two servicemen of the Russian Federation have been charged with crimes committed during the occupation of Bucha. Specifically, these actions led to the deaths of peaceful residents and involved brutal treatment of them.

According to the report, it has been established that one of the Russian sniper scouts opened fire on local residents who were attempting to bury a man killed by Russian forces near a high-rise building. The police also identified the commander of a unit from a military unit in Pskov, who humiliated and inflicted bodily harm on one of the local residents.

Law enforcement officials found that the first incident occurred in March 2022, when Russian troops, during a patrol on Yablunska Street, opened fire on civilians without any justification while they were trying to bury a victim of the actions of the Russian military. One man, trying to escape, began to run towards a basement. The Russian soldier, realizing that he was facing a civilian who posed no threat, began to aim and shoot at the victim's head with his automatic weapon. Fortunately, the local resident managed to escape and hide in the basement.

Investigators from the National Police, relying on information from the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine, identified the suspect. He turned out to be a 35-year-old native of Pskov, a sniper scout from the reconnaissance platoon of the 1st battalion tactical group of the 234th Air Assault Assault Brigade of the 76th Air Assault Division of the Russian Airborne Forces (military unit 74268). This soldier was directly involved in the armed aggression against Ukraine.

Law enforcement officials informed him of the suspicion of attempted intentional murder of a civilian under Part 2 of Article 15 and Part 2 of Article 438 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The sanction of this article provides for life imprisonment.

It is noteworthy that this is already the fifth episode of holding this serviceman accountable for war crimes committed in Bucha. In addition, the police have established another fact of cruel treatment of the civilian population in Bucha.

Specifically, war criminals, while in the yard of a high-rise building on Tsentralna Street, stopped a civilian passing by. One of the occupiers forced him to kneel and then began to beat and humiliate him. With the assistance of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine, the police were able to identify this attacker.

This attacker turned out to be a 37-year-old native of the Magadan region of the Russian Federation, a squad commander and commander of a combat vehicle in the communications unit of the 234th Air Assault Assault Brigade of the 76th Air Assault Division of the Russian Airborne Forces (military unit 74268, Pskov). He was also directly involved in the armed aggression against Ukraine.

The police investigators informed the suspect of the charge of cruel treatment of the civilian population under Part 1 of Article 438 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The sanction of this article provides for up to 12 years of imprisonment.

Law enforcement officials also established that in November 2025, this soldier had already been convicted by a Ukrainian court to 11 years of imprisonment for similar crimes committed in the Bucha district. As reported by Ukrinform, on December 20, 2025, the Russian soldier was charged with an order to shoot civilians in Bucha.
