DTEK Allocates 4.2 Billion UAH for Preparation Ahead of Summer Peaks and Winter Season

From January to March 2023, DTEK Energy has invested approximately 4.2 billion UAH in preparations for the upcoming summer peaks in electricity consumption and the next heating season. This funding has been crucial for repairs and restoration efforts following numerous enemy shellings.

DTEK Energy, a leading energy company in Ukraine, has allocated around 4.2 billion UAH from January to March 2023 for the preparation of the summer peaks in electricity consumption and the upcoming heating season. These funds have been utilized for necessary repairs and restoration work, which are critical after the extensive damage caused by repeated enemy shellings, as well as for maintaining the operation of thermal power plants and mines.

Alexander Fomenko, the General Director of DTEK Energy, emphasized that the company is continuously engaged in repair work due to the unprecedented scale of destruction. He highlighted that the restoration of thermal power plants following the attacks will continue throughout 2026 and beyond, indicating the long-term challenges faced by the energy sector.

Fomenko also reported that energy workers, repairmen, miners, and machine builders have already begun preparations for the next winter, which is critically important under the current circumstances. 'Our specialists are working to ensure the stability of the country's energy system,' he stated, underscoring the urgency of their efforts.

According to information provided by DTEK Energy, the holding's power plants have experienced massive shelling 11 times in the past six months. 'These concentrated attacks have led to colossal destruction. In some of our stations, dozens of drones and rockets were directed in a single attack. However, thanks to the selfless work of thousands of energy workers, we managed to get through this heating season. This is already the fourth one,' Fomenko stressed.

Since the onset of the full-scale invasion, DTEK Energy has invested nearly 44 billion UAH in thermal power plants, mines, and machine-building factories. During this period, the company’s thermal power plants have faced over 220 attacks, and energy workers have had to restore stations 'from scratch' more than 60 times due to critical damage.

Fomenko also emphasized that this heating season has been the most challenging for the Ukrainian energy sector since the beginning of the full-scale war. 'Despite all the challenges, the energy workers, miners, repairmen, and machine builders of DTEK Energy worked as a unified team to ensure that the country could survive the winter. However, it is crucial to start preparing for the next winter now,' he pointed out.

Currently, the machine builders of the holding continue to provide the mines with necessary equipment and components, which helps maintain coal production and ensures more reliable operation of thermal generation. DTEK Energy ensures a closed production cycle of electricity generation from coal. As of January 2022, the company’s installed capacity in thermal generation stood at 13.3 GW. The coal mining sector has established a complete production cycle, which includes coal extraction and enrichment, machine building, and servicing of mining equipment.
