In Ternopil, a series of events are set to take place to honor the memory of Ukrainian Hero Serhiy Konoval on the second anniversary of his death. Olha Konoval, Serhiy's wife, announced these plans on her Facebook page, stating that memory is not just about words but also actions. 'We invite everyone to join the events we are organizing on the second anniversary of Serhiy's death. Memory is action. We remember, we thank, we act,' she wrote.
Specifically, on Sunday, April 5, at 12:00 PM, a masterclass on stopping critical bleeding will be held, which is a significant part of the events as Serhiy Konoval was not only a soldier but also a medic. At 2:00 PM, a book presentation will take place featuring writer Zoryana Bindas's book titled 'Nord and the Steel Hundred,' which has been recommended by PEN Ukraine. This book tells a story for children about modern Ukrainian heroes, including Serhiy Konoval's journey, his love story, his comrades, and his fight against the enemy.
In addition, on Monday, April 6, from 8:00 AM to 1:00 PM, residents of Ternopil are invited to donate blood in memory of Serhiy. It is known that during his lifetime, he donated blood 12 times, and this initiative offers a wonderful opportunity to honor his memory through a noble act. 'He also loved cocoa very much. Therefore, after the donation, we will treat all participants to Nord's favorite cocoa,' Olha Konoval added.
Throughout the day, sports training sessions will also be held in memory of the hero. From April 6 to April 10, the regional youth library will implement the project 'Unreturned Books,' which will feature a memorial stand dedicated to Serhiy Konoval. He was an avid book lover, reading about 100 books each year. Library visitors will have the opportunity to see the backpack that was with Serhiy at the time of his death, as well as the literature he read.
Furthermore, on April 4, Serhiy Konoval's memory will be honored in the capital of the United Kingdom. In London, an exhibition presentation by Khrystyna Lutsyk titled 'War in Faces' is scheduled to take place at the Ukrainian Catholic Cathedral. This event will provide another opportunity to honor the memory of Ukrainian heroes on an international level.
Serhiy Konoval began his defense of Ukraine in 2014 when, as a medical university student, he joined the 'Hospitallers.' He rose from a paramedic to the commander of the 2nd rifle company 'Steel Hundred' of the 2nd rifle battalion named after Hammer of the 67th Separate Mechanized Brigade. Serhiy participated in battles for Kyiv, Kharkiv, Donetsk, and Bakhmut. Unfortunately, he was killed on April 6, 2024, in Donetsk alongside his comrade Taras Petryshyn. Posthumously, Serhiy was awarded the title of Hero of Ukraine and received the Order of 'For Courage' III degree. He is also an honorary citizen of Ternopil and Ternopil region.
Serhiy Konoval was actively involved in community activities, being one of the founders of the 'Veterans' House' in Ternopil, organizing military training camps, and producing films. As reported by Ukrinform, in April 2025, a memorial plaque honoring Hero of Ukraine Serhiy Konoval was unveiled in Ternopil, further confirming his significance to the community.
