On April 8, 2024, the National Preserve 'Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra' will open an exhibition of masterpieces of sacred art, aptly named 'Christ is Risen!'. According to the press service of the preserve, this exhibition is dedicated to the Easter holiday and will provide viewers with a unique opportunity to immerse themselves in the cultural and religious atmosphere surrounding this important celebration.
The 'Christ is Risen!' exhibition not only highlights the religious aspect of the holiday but also invites visitors to consider it as part of a shared cultural experience that encompasses art, traditions, and personal reflections. This approach allows attendees to reassess the significance of Easter within Ukrainian culture and history.
At the core of the project is a sequential visual narrative depicting the events of Holy Week and the Resurrection of Christ. Visitors will have the chance to journey from the 'Entry into Jerusalem' to the climactic moment of the Resurrection, illustrated through works from the preserve's collection.
The exhibition organizers emphasize that the display will feature artifacts of sacred art from the 16th to 19th centuries, including iconography, graphics, ecclesiastical embroidery, and items made from precious metals. Notably, some of the exhibits will be presented for the first time, which is sure to attract the attention of both experts and the general public.
Among the key works that will be showcased at the exhibition are monumental icon-paintings such as 'Crucifixion' and 'Deposition from the Cross', along with artifacts from the 16th and 17th centuries, including 'Descent into Hell', 'The Lord's Entry into Jerusalem', and 'Ascension'. These works have already been included in the State Register of National Cultural Heritage, underscoring their significance to Ukrainian cultural heritage.
The exhibition will be inaugurated on April 8 at 15:30 in the exhibition hall of the Assumption Cathedral at the National Preserve 'Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra', located at 21 Ivan Mazepa Street. This event promises to be a significant cultural occasion that will unite people around shared values and traditions passed down through generations.
