Russian Agent Sentenced to 15 Years for Plotting to Assassinate Melitopol City Council Official

A significant court session in Zaporizhzhia has resulted in the sentencing of a Russian agent who attempted to carry out the assassination of a Melitopol city council official. The man has been sentenced to 15 years in prison, according to information from the Office of the Prosecutor General of Ukraine.

In a pivotal court session held in Zaporizhzhia, a Russian agent has been sentenced to 15 years in prison for his role in a plot to assassinate a member of the Melitopol city council. This decision was announced by the Office of the Prosecutor General of Ukraine, highlighting the ongoing efforts to combat state treason and terrorism within the country.

The Zaporizhzhia Regional Prosecutor's Office presented public charges against the individual, a Ukrainian citizen, who was found guilty of state treason and conspiracy to commit murder for hire. The court established that in June 2024, a resident of the temporarily occupied Melitopol agreed to carry out a task for Russian intelligence services, specifically to kill a city council official in exchange for a private house.

To execute this criminal plan, the perpetrator underwent specialized training at an FSB training center, where he received instructions on conspiracy and knife combat techniques. These skills formed the basis of his subsequent actions aimed at fulfilling the contract.

According to investigative reports, the agent arrived in Zaporizhzhia disguised as a displaced person. He meticulously studied the victim's residence and movement routes, prepared murder weapons, and donned special clothing that mimicked the work attire of an electrician. His plan involved ambushing the victim in the entrance of a building and delivering a fatal blow to the head with a hammer.

Following the execution of this crime, the agent intended to flee to the temporarily occupied territory to collect the promised reward. However, in August 2024, he was uncovered and apprehended by law enforcement, marking a significant step in the fight against terrorism and state treason in Ukraine.

The court, having reviewed all the evidence and arguments presented by the prosecutors, concurred with their position and imposed a sentence of 15 years in prison with asset confiscation. This ruling serves as an important warning to other potential traitors that there will be no tolerance for crimes against the state in Ukraine.

This case underscores the serious threat posed by Russian intelligence services and the crucial role of law enforcement agencies in identifying and neutralizing such threats. The Ukrainian authorities continue to take measures to ensure the safety of their citizens and protect national interests amid the challenging conditions of modern warfare.
