David Haye Claims Oleksandr Usyk Lost to Derek Chisora: Possible Rematch Depends on Victory Over Wilder

Former world boxing champion David Haye has weighed in on one of the most debated matches in heavyweight history, asserting that Oleksandr Usyk lost to Derek Chisora. He believes a rematch hinges on Chisora's upcoming fight against Deontay Wilder.

Former world boxing champion David Haye has expressed his views on one of the most discussed bouts in heavyweight history, which took place between Ukrainian Oleksandr Usyk (24−0, 15 KOs) and British fighter Derek Chisora (36−13, 23 KOs). Reflecting on the fight that occurred nearly six years ago, Haye stated that, in his opinion, Chisora emerged victorious in that confrontation.

David Haye, who is himself a renowned boxer, noted that many people share his opinion regarding the outcome of this match. He is confident that if Chisora can secure a win in his upcoming fight against former world champion Deontay Wilder, he will have the opportunity to stage a rematch with Usyk, who is currently the undisputed heavyweight champion.

"I believe he [Chisora] beat Usyk, and many people think the same. If he wins this fight [against Wilder], he will have the chance to have that mega fight against the absolute number one in the heavyweight division. He is the one who pushed Usyk the hardest of all his opponents in both cruiserweight and heavyweight," Haye was quoted by Boxing News Online.

For context, the fight between Usyk and Chisora took place on October 31, 2020, and concluded with a unanimous decision victory for the Ukrainian. The judges scored the bout 117-112 and two scores of 115-113 in favor of Usyk. However, despite this outcome, Derek Chisora remains convinced that he was the true victor in that match.

In turn, Chisora is scheduled to fight Deontay Wilder on April 4 in London, a bout that could be a pivotal moment in his career. If Chisora manages to win, it would pave the way for a rematch with Usyk, which would be a significant event for boxing.

Oleksandr Usyk, for his part, is already preparing for his next fight, set for May 23, where he will face kickboxing legend Rico Verhoeven. This bout will take place under boxing rules in Giza, Egypt, with the WBC title on the line. Following this, Usyk is obligated to defend his title against Cabayel, highlighting his active presence in the ring and readiness for new challenges.

Additionally, reports have indicated that Usyk has named a boxer who could potentially be his opponent in Tyson Fury's farewell fight. This suggests that the Ukrainian boxer is actively planning his career and is not afraid of the challenges that may arise along the way.

Thus, the situation surrounding the fights of Usyk and Chisora remains tense, and upcoming bouts could significantly impact their careers and status in the boxing world.
