Derek Chisora Calls Oleksandr Usyk the Best Opponent of His Career
Derek Chisora, a boxer with a record of 36−13, recently shared his thoughts on Oleksandr Usyk, the WBA, WBC, and IBF champion, whom he regards as the best fighter he has ever faced.
Derek Chisora, a boxer with an impressive record of 36 wins and 13 losses, 23 of which came by knockout, has recently expressed his admiration for Oleksandr Usyk, the reigning champion of the WBA, WBC, and IBF, who boasts an unblemished record of 24 wins, including 15 knockouts. Chisora referred to Usyk as the best among all the boxers he has competed against, highlighting the unique skills that set him apart in the boxing world.
In an interview with BoxingScene, Chisora emphasized Usyk's exceptional movement, stating, "Movement. Movement. He beats everyone because of his movement. You see, in boxing, we are taught to hit the target and not to move our feet. But Oleksandr — he hits the target, moves, changes angles, shifts from one side to the other. So it’s quite complex." This acknowledgment of Usyk's agility and tactical prowess underscores the challenges he presents to his opponents.
Chisora further elaborated on his early belief in Usyk's potential to become the best boxer, saying, "I knew he would become the best because everyone else was avoiding him. I fought him, and then his next big fight was against AJ at Tottenham. A fantastic fight; he won that. Then in the rematch, he won again. And from that moment, I knew he would become a superstar." This insight into Chisora's perspective reveals the high regard he has for Usyk's abilities and career trajectory.
The bout between Usyk and Chisora took place in the fall of 2020, marking only Usyk's second fight in the heavyweight division. Usyk emerged victorious in that match, winning by unanimous decision, which showcased his skill and tactical preparation against Chisora.
As for Derek Chisora, he is currently preparing for his next fight, scheduled for April 4 against former world champion Deontay Wilder in London. This matchup promises to be intriguing, as both boxers possess significant experience and strong boxing skills, setting the stage for an exciting contest.
On the other hand, Oleksandr Usyk is also gearing up for his next challenge. He is set to face kickboxing legend Rico Verhoeven on May 23 in Giza, Egypt, under boxing rules. The bout will be for the WBC title, adding extra significance to this encounter. Following this fight, the organization has mandated that Usyk must defend his title against Cabayel immediately after his voluntary defense.
Thus, both Chisora and Usyk continue to advance their careers, preparing for new challenges and opportunities for success in the ring. Boxing remains at the forefront of sports, and the competition among the best athletes promises to be thrilling for fans around the world.
