Deontay Wilder Criticizes Usyk's Team Over Fight Cancellation

Former heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder has expressed his disappointment regarding the canceled fight with unified champion Oleksandr Usyk, blaming the Ukrainian's team for a lack of organization.

Deontay Wilder, a former world heavyweight champion from the United States, has a professional record of 44 wins, 4 losses, and 1 draw, with an impressive 43 of those victories coming by knockout. At 40 years old, Wilder has recently spoken out about the highly anticipated bout that ultimately did not take place against Oleksandr Usyk, the reigning WBC, WBA, and IBF heavyweight champion. Wilder has accused Usyk's team of failing to have a clear plan for organizing the fight.

In an interview with Brunch Boxing, Wilder stated, "Unfortunately, we were unable to make this happen within the set timeframe. We tried to understand what they wanted, where and when they planned to hold the fight. But they did not have a fully developed picture, just a general desire." These comments reflect Wilder's frustration over the negotiations that did not yield the desired outcome.

Wilder emphasized that, as an experienced fighter, he cannot afford to simply sit and wait like younger boxers might. "The clock is ticking, every second counts," he added, indicating that time is not on his side as he looks to secure significant fights in his career.

In light of this situation, Wilder has decided to take on Derek Chisora in a match scheduled for April 4 at The O2 Arena in London. This fight will mark Chisora's 50th professional bout. Wilder's last fight took place in June of the previous year, where he achieved a knockout victory over Tyrell Herndon in the seventh round. Chisora, on the other hand, last stepped into the ring in February 2025, where he won a decision against Otto Wallin.

Recently, Wilder and Chisora engaged in a stare-down, signaling their preparation for the upcoming fight. Previously, Usyk's team provided explanations for the cancellation of the bout with Wilder, but Wilder also shared his perspective on why he does not consider Usyk to be the greatest boxer of all time.

Additionally, world champion Fabio Wardley has speculated on the reasons behind the fight's cancellation between Usyk and Wilder. This issue remains a hot topic among boxing fans who were eagerly anticipating the match.

Thus, the situation surrounding the fight between Wilder and Usyk continues to spark discussions, while Wilder prepares for a new challenge in the form of Derek Chisora. Whether the American can return to the top after the cancellation of the fight with Usyk remains to be seen as time unfolds.
