Democrats in the U.S. Consider Possibility of Removing Trump Over His Statements on Iran
The Democratic Party in the United States is at the center of heated discussions regarding the potential removal of President Donald Trump from office. This debate has arisen in light of his recent sharp remarks about Iran, particularly his statement that 'a whole civilization will die tonight.'
The Democratic Party in the United States finds itself embroiled in intense discussions about the possibility of removing President Donald Trump from office. This conversation has emerged against the backdrop of his recent alarming comments regarding Iran, specifically when Trump declared that 'a whole civilization will die tonight.' These words have raised concerns among lawmakers who believe they could pose a threat not only to American troops but also to the Iranian populace.
In light of this, several members of the Democratic Party are openly considering the option of impeaching Trump or removing him from office under the 25th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution. This amendment allows the Vice President and a majority of Cabinet members to temporarily remove the President if he is 'unable to discharge the powers and duties of his office.' Representative Yassamin Ansari, an Iranian-American member of the House, emphasized the importance of taking this issue seriously, stating that 'the 25th Amendment exists for a reason; his Cabinet should use it.'
By the evening of April 7, over 50 Democrats from the House of Representatives, along with Senators Ed Markey and Ron Wyden, had called for Trump's removal from office either through impeachment or under the 25th Amendment. One senior Democrat in the House informed Axios that there are 'rumors' about initiating a vote to impeach Trump or sending a letter to the Cabinet urging the application of the 25th Amendment. However, according to sources, these discussions have not yet reached a high level.
Meanwhile, White House Press Secretary Davis Ingle commented on the Democrats' actions, stating that it is 'sad to watch' their attempts. 'It's pathetic. Democrats have been talking about impeaching President Trump since before he took office. Congressional Democrats are frantic, weak, and ineffective, which is why their approval ratings are at a historic low,' Ingle emphasized.
Axios also notes that impeachment or removal of Trump is unlikely, as substantial support from Republicans in Congress would be necessary for such actions. On April 7, Trump hinted that Iran would be struck that night. In a post on the social media platform Truth Social, he wrote, 'a whole civilization will die.' 'Tonight, a whole civilization will die, and it will never come back. I do not want this to happen, but it likely will. However, now that there has been a complete and total regime change, where other, smarter, and less radical minds prevail, something revolutionary and wonderful may happen — who knows? We will find out tonight, at one of the most important moments in the long and complicated history of the world,' Trump stated.
Additionally, on April 6, Axios reported that the U.S. and Iran are discussing the terms of a potential 45-day ceasefire through intermediaries, which could lead to a final end to the war. On the same day, Reuters, citing sources, reported that Iran rejected a proposal to end the war with the U.S. and Israel, under which Tehran was supposed to unblock the Strait of Hormuz for a ceasefire. Subsequently, CNN reported that Trump did not support the plan presented by the intermediaries.
