Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie Unable to Agree on Court Date for Château Miraval Sale Case
Hollywood stars Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie are at an impasse regarding the court date for the sale of their joint French estate, Château Miraval, to Russian oligarch Yuri Shefler. Reports from TMZ indicate that the hearing is currently set for February 1, 2027, but Jolie is requesting a postponement to November 2027.
Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie, two prominent figures in Hollywood, find themselves unable to reach an agreement on the date for a court hearing concerning the sale of their shared French estate, Château Miraval, to Russian oligarch Yuri Shefler. According to information published by TMZ, the case is scheduled for February 1, 2027, but Jolie is seeking to delay it until November 2027.
Pitt, on the other hand, has expressed his willingness to postpone the hearing by two months, but he firmly opposes pushing it to the end of 2027 as requested by his ex-wife. He emphasizes that such a delay deprives him of the 'peaceful enjoyment of his home in France,' which is a significant aspect of this case.
Additionally, the publication reports that Pitt is facing challenges with the new owner of the estate, whom he believes is attempting a 'hostile takeover' of the business. In his statement, the actor also claims that his wine business has 'hit a dead end due to the legal dispute,' and he is eager for the situation to be resolved as quickly as possible so that both parties can 'move forward with their lives.'
Pitt further underscores the necessity of an expedited court date to secure the presence of key witnesses, noting that Jolie's former business manager, Terry Bird, has already passed away, and another of her attorneys may be 'too ill to testify.' The actor points out that Jolie has not provided any valid reason for the delay in the court proceedings.
Château Miraval is a luxurious estate featuring 35 rooms and a vast vineyard, valued at approximately $500 million today. The property was purchased by Jolie and Pitt in 2011 and has since become a symbol of their shared life together.
The couple divorced in 2016; however, they continued to hold their stakes in the business until 2021 when Angelina informed Brad of her desire to exit the business. Initially, the actors nearly reached an agreement where Brad would buy out Angelina's 50% stake, but conflict arose after Pitt proposed signing a non-disclosure agreement related to the purchase of her share.
Jolie contended that such an agreement was an attempt to silence her regarding domestic violence, while Pitt maintained that the actress rejected the agreement because she had already made arrangements with Stoli Group, owned by Russian oligarch Yuri Shefler.
In 2022, Brad Pitt filed a lawsuit against his ex-wife over the agreement with the Russian oligarch's company, asserting that Jolie sold the estate without his consent, violating their agreement regarding the management of their joint property. He claims that the sale without his approval is invalid.
Angelina Jolie has filed a motion to dismiss Brad Pitt's claims in this case. However, in November 2024, a Los Angeles Superior Court judge rejected Jolie's lawsuit, stating that the agreement between the actors is legally binding.
In July 2025, Brad Pitt approached the court with a request to depose his former wife in this matter. The actor's lawyers are also seeking to question the Russian intermediary involved in the sale of the estate to Shefler.
Last December, Brad Pitt achieved a significant legal victory in the property dispute. A Los Angeles court ruled that the actress must hand over a series of previously concealed personal messages related to the case. The judge agreed with Pitt's legal team that certain communications must be disclosed in full. The actress was ordered to provide unredacted versions of the previously hidden messages exchanged between the parties, with a deadline of 45 days to comply with this ruling.
