Minister Bidny Explains Reasons for Postponement of Rector Elections at NUFVSU

In a live television broadcast, Ukraine's Minister of Youth and Sports, Matviy Bidny, announced the postponement of the rector elections at the National University of Physical Education and Sport of Ukraine (NUFVSU) until autumn, following alarming signals regarding potential violations during the electoral process.

In a significant announcement made during a live broadcast, Matviy Bidny, the Minister of Youth and Sports of Ukraine, revealed that the elections for the rector of the National University of Physical Education and Sport of Ukraine (NUFVSU) have been postponed until the fall. This decision comes in response to troubling reports received by the ministry concerning possible irregularities in the electoral process.

According to Bidny, information regarding issues at the university began to surface through various channels, prompting government officials to take a closer look at the situation. The minister emphasized that the aim of postponing the elections is to conduct an audit to address existing problems and to clearly define the criteria for the future rector.

“When I was a student at the university, the biggest issue for me was the lack of a cafeteria. I remember eating from containers and cans in the weightlifting hall. Or we all ran to the metro to buy chebureks. Even now, the university still does not have a cafeteria. Meanwhile, several large commercial enterprises, including fitness centers, successfully operate on the university's premises, which students have no access to. Why, under such conditions, do teachers have one of the lowest salaries not only in the field but also among educational institutions in Kyiv?” Bidny pointed out, highlighting the various challenges faced by the educational establishment.

The minister added that the decision to postpone the elections was not an easy one, but he believed it was the right choice. “The decision was difficult, but we decided that it is better to postpone the voting, conduct an audit, clarify the criteria that we will include in the contract for the future rector, and hold proper elections that will yield the results we want to achieve,” he stated.

Bidny also outlined the areas that the audit at NUFVSU will cover. “The audit aims to check the activities of commercial establishments on the university's territory, the material and technical base, which complex scientific groups can operate based on these institutions, and which sports should become key and fundamental for Kyiv, Lviv universities, and Kharkiv Academy. We need to distribute the areas of training and the system of staff preparation among our three universities to set tasks more clearly,” the head of the Ministry of Youth and Sports noted.

It is worth mentioning that during the hour of questions to the government in the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, Matviy Bidny also confirmed that the elections for the rector of NUFVSU have been postponed to September to verify information regarding possible abuses. This decision has sparked discussions among students and faculty, who hope for positive changes in the university's management.
