Drones Attack Krymsk Oil Pumping Station in Krasnodar Krai, Casualties Reported

In the early hours of April 9, 2023, drones launched an attack on the Krymsk oil pumping station located in Krasnodar Krai, Russia, resulting in one confirmed death and a fire at the facility.

In the night from April 8 to 9, 2023, drones executed an attack on the Krymsk oil pumping station situated in Krasnodar Krai, Russia. Reports from the Russian publication Astra indicate that a series of explosions rang out in the town of Krymsk, causing panic among local residents.

The governor of Krasnodar Krai, Veniamin Kondratiev, confirmed the information regarding one fatality and a fire that erupted on the premises of the facility. According to him, the attack inflicted significant damage on the infrastructure, raising concerns among local authorities and residents alike.

According to OSINT analysis, the Krymsk linear production dispatch station (LPDS), a crucial component of the oil pipeline infrastructure, was struck. This station is part of the main pipeline system that facilitates the transportation of oil and petroleum products in the region. The attack ignited a fire at the 110 kV Krymsk substation, leading to further complications in the operation of the facility.

The Krymsk LPDS plays an essential role in pumping oil and petroleum products through several major pipelines, including those leading to the port of Novorossiysk, as well as to the Ilsky and Afipsky oil refineries. This infrastructure is critically important for the region's economy, and an attack on it could have serious implications for energy security.

Interestingly, just a few days prior to this attack, on April 7, the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reported successful strikes on the Sheskharis oil terminal in Krasnodar Krai, Russia, as well as a hit on a Russian frigate. Ukrainian military officials noted that as a result of these attacks, damage was inflicted on the berths No. 1, No. 1A, and No. 2, as well as on the berths No. 6 and No. 7. Additionally, the oil distribution and unloading pipeline system sustained damage.

These events unfold against the backdrop of the ongoing conflict between Ukraine and Russia, which has persisted since 2014. Attacks on critical infrastructure of the adversary have become a common practice in the context of war, with both sides striving to inflict damage on each other using various means of combat, including drones.

The war between Russia and Ukraine continues to impact the situation in the region, and incidents such as the attack on the Krymsk LPDS only highlight the tension and unpredictability of developments. Local residents and authorities are concerned about security, and such attacks could lead to new escalations in the conflict.
