BEB Uncovers Abuses During Procurement at Defense Enterprise

The Bureau of Economic Security of Ukraine (BEB) has reported the discovery of abuses during procurement processes at a defense enterprise, resulting in significant financial losses for the state.

The Bureau of Economic Security of Ukraine (BEB) has disclosed that it has uncovered serious abuses in procurement activities at a defense enterprise, leading to substantial financial losses for the state. According to information released by the BEB press service, a former director of the department responsible for logistics and procurement entered into a contract with a foreign company for the supply of capacitors at prices that significantly exceeded their actual market value.

Details provided by the BEB indicate that the contract was signed without appropriate economic justification, and the procurement conditions did not align with the principles of effective and rational use of state funds. This mismanagement resulted in the state enterprise incurring financial losses totaling over 5 million hryvnias.

As a result of the investigation, the former official has been notified of suspicion under part 2 of Article 364 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, which stipulates liability for abuse of power or office that leads to severe consequences. An indictment in this case has already been forwarded to the court for further consideration.

This case is part of a broader context of the fight against corruption in Ukraine, particularly in the defense sector, where the use of budgetary funds must be as transparent and effective as possible. Earlier reports indicated that the Territorial Department of the BEB in the Poltava region had completed a pre-trial investigation into the embezzlement of budget funds allocated for the procurement of drones for the Armed Forces of Ukraine. An indictment in this matter has also been sent to court.

These developments highlight the intensification of law enforcement efforts in Ukraine to identify and investigate instances of corruption, which is undoubtedly an important step towards ensuring transparency and accountability in the use of state funds. The BEB continues its work in this direction, striving to prevent similar abuses in the future.
