Anna Wintour and Meryl Streep Grace the Cover of VOGUE Ahead of 'The Devil Wears Prada 2' Release

In a historic collaboration, global editorial director of VOGUE, Anna Wintour, appears on the magazine's cover alongside renowned Hollywood actress Meryl Streep, marking the release of the much-anticipated sequel 'The Devil Wears Prada 2'.

Global editorial director of VOGUE, Anna Wintour, has made a notable appearance on the cover of the magazine for the first time alongside celebrated Hollywood actress Meryl Streep. This striking photoshoot coincides with the release of the sequel to the cult classic film 'The Devil Wears Prada 2', in which Streep reprises her iconic role as Miranda Priestly, the audacious and ruthless editor-in-chief of the fictional magazine Podium. This character is famously inspired by Wintour herself, as depicted in the novel 'The Devil Wears Prada' written by journalist Lauren Weisberger.

The photoshoot, captured by renowned photographer Annie Leibovitz, vividly reflects the style and elegance that both women embody. The accompanying interview for the magazine was conducted by director Greta Gerwig, known for her successful films such as 'Lady Bird' and 'Barbie'.

In her interview, Anna Wintour expressed her honor at being portrayed by Meryl Streep, stating, 'It is a great honor for me that Meryl Streep played my role.' However, she also pointed out that the character of Miranda Priestly is 'far removed' from her true self, while nonetheless calling it an 'extraordinary gift'. This highlights the significant differences between Wintour's real-life persona and the fictional character, despite certain similarities.

Meryl Streep, for her part, shared her fascination with the business aspects of her character. 'It’s about carrying the burden of many people’s work, managing a large organization, and somehow ensuring its functionality,' she explained. The actress also noted that in times when many institutions are crumbling or exploding, she is curious about where they will go next. She believes that the new film captures something genuine about the world of fashion and business.

Anna Wintour further elaborated on how 'The Devil Wears Prada' reflected the enormity of the fashion industry. 'What I liked about the first film is that it showed the world how massive the business of fashion is. It is a real economic force globally, and the first film recognized that,' she remarked. Wintour emphasized that the fashion industry is not disintegrating; rather, it is evolving and remains present, continuing to fulfill its role across various platforms.

Both women, who are currently 76 years old, also discussed the issue of age. Anna Wintour mentioned that Annie Leibovitz, who conducted the photoshoot, is also 76. 'My life… I can’t even talk about it. It’s too complicated a question,' she said, reflecting on her journey through life. Streep added that returning to the character of Miranda after 20 years made her think about how to bear responsibility while remaining engaged in the world.

Wintour expressed satisfaction with her age, stating, 'I like my age. I feel as alive, excited, and aware as ever.' She highlighted that with experience comes a sense of balance, and it is important to be able to move forward, even when things do not go as planned.

'The Devil Wears Prada 2' is set to hit theaters on April 30. The film features lead roles by Meryl Streep, Anne Hathaway, Emily Blunt, and Stanley Tucci, who are all reprising their characters from the previous film. The events in the new installment take place 20 years after the first film, promising new challenges and developments for the characters.
