In February, President Volodymyr Zelensky said Ukrainian forces had liberated about 300 square kilometers of occupied territory, as Russian efforts to break through Ukrainian defenses had failed despite the deployment of substantial reserves. The territorial gains come amid continued heavy fighting along parts of the eastern and southern fronts, where the most intense fighting took place in the Oleksandrivka, Pokrovsk, Kostiantynivka, and Lyman directions.
