Russian forces launched a widespread wave of drone attacks across Ukraine overnight on Saturday, April 18, causing significant damage to critical infrastructure and residential neighborhoods in several regions.
In the Chernihiv region, a Russian drone struck an energy facility in the Nizhyn district at approximately 4:00 a.m. The regional utility company, Chernihivoblenergo, reported that the attack resulted in a power outage, leaving 380,000 residents without electricity across the cities of Chernihiv, Pryluky, Nizhyn, and Slavutych, as well as several surrounding districts. Emergency crews are currently working to restore power.

Simultaneously, the Odesa region faced renewed strikes targeting maritime and industrial assets. Odesa Regional Military Administration Head Oleh Kiper reported that the drones hit port and industrial infrastructure in the Odesa district.
The attack damaged administrative buildings, agricultural warehouses, buses, and storage tanks. At least one person was injured, and fires that broke out at the impact sites were extinguished by emergency services.
In Zaporizhzhia , Iranian-designed Shahed-type drones struck residential areas of the regional center. Zaporizhzhia Regional Military Administration Head Ivan Fedorov confirmed that the attack damaged an infrastructure facility, private homes, and vehicles.
At least one man was injured and is receiving medical care.

The overnight strikes are part of an intensified aerial campaign. On Friday, April 17, the Ukrainian Air Force reported t he launch of 172 drones and an Iskander-M ballistic missile , with air defenses successfully intercepting 147 targets. Despite high interception rates, systemic strikes on the energy grid continue to pressure the country’s recovery efforts.
