Another seven were injured in the Kyiv region, while authorities in eastern Ukraine’s Kharkiv reported 28 wounded. Two more people were injured in southern Ukraine’s Odesa region. “Overall, 180 sites were damaged across the country, including more than 50 ordinary residential buildings,” Zelensky said. Zelensky said search-and-rescue operations were still ongoing in Kyiv’s Darnytskyi district , where emergency workers continued searching for people trapped beneath the rubble of a residential building. More than 10 people were considered missing, according to Zelensky. Emergency services also remained active in Kyiv’s Obolonskyi district and in the Poltava region following Russian strikes there. Zelensky said more than 750 State Emergency Service (DSNS) workers and nearly 750 police officers had been deployed nationwide to deal with the aftermath of the attacks. The president also accused Russian forces of attacking a UN humanitarian mission vehicle in the Kherson region earlier on Thursday. Fewer foreign leaders attended, while security measures caused internet disruptions in Moscow. Analysts say the subdued event projected Kremlin vulnerability and highlighted difficulties countering Ukrainian drone attacks. According to Zelensky, Russian forces targeted a vehicle belonging to the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) twice, using first-person view (FPV) drones during a humanitarian mission. “Russia could not have failed to know what kind of vehicle they were attacking,” Zelensky said. The vehicle reportedly carried the head of the UN humanitarian office and eight other staff members. No injuries were reported, and the mission members were evacuated. Zelensky said Ukrainian forces managed to intercept a significant number of Russian missiles and drones during the attacks. “The overall interception rate exceeded 93 percent,” he said, though he acknowledged that countering ballistic missiles remained difficult. “For all these strikes there will be a fair response,” Zelensky said, again calling for increased sanctions pressure on Moscow and continued international support for Ukraine. Kyiv came under a massive, multi-wave Russian aerial assault in the early hours of Thursday, as Russian forces launched a combined missile and drone attack on the Ukrainian capital, damaging residential buildings in several districts and trapping people under rubble after part of an apartment building collapsed. Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko said an entire section of a nine-story residential apartment building in Kyiv’s Darnytskyi district was destroyed in the attack. According to Klitschko, five people were killed in the attack on Kyiv, including a 12-year-old girl, and 39 residents were injured. The DSNS said at least 20 people remained missing, while another 28 people were rescued. According to Ukraine’s Air Force, Russia launched a total of 731 aerial weapons overnight – including 56 missiles and 675 drones – in what became one of the largest air assaults of the war. Kyiv was the main target of the attack. The barrage came immediately after Russia launched nearly 800 drones during attacks throughout Wednesday , continuing a sustained bombardment campaign that Ukrainian officials described as one of the longest and largest coordinated assaults since the start of the full-scale invasion. Ukraine’s Air Force said Russia used Kinzhal aeroballistic missiles, Iskander-M ballistic missiles, Kh-101 cruise missiles and hundreds of Shahed-type attack drones and decoy unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) launched from multiple regions inside Russia and occupied Crimea. Ukrainian air defenses – including aviation, anti-aircraft missile forces, electronic warfare units and mobile fire groups – reportedly destroyed or suppressed 693 aerial targets, including 41 missiles and 652 drones. Officials said 15 missiles and 23 drones struck targets at 24 locations, while debris from intercepted targets fell across 18 separate areas. Air Force officials warned that the attack was still ongoing Thursday morning, with additional groups of drones entering Ukrainian airspace. Between Wednesday and Thursday, the number of Russian drones and missiles used surpassed 1,500 , making it the largest attack in the war thus far.
